New Toys Bring Olympic Spirit Right Into the Palm of Your Hand

The Olympics are under way in London, England and an assortment of collectibles are now available to celebrate the occasion. Plush figures of both London 2012 mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville, housed in mugs,are available for £10.00 a piece while die-cast models of a London taxi and double decker bus can be had for £12.00 each. In addition, Transport for London has more Olympic offerings at its official online shop. The 2012 Summer Olympic games in London run through August 12th.

LEGO Store Monthly Model Build to Feature Olympic Flame

LEGO has gotten into the spirit of the Olympic games by having the Olympic Flame as its monthly model build for July! Not just limited to the UK, like the Olympic’s inspired  Team GB minifigures , the free Olympic Flame model will be available all across the world in LEGO Brand retail stores.The 2012 summer Olympics are slated to begin July 27th and run until August 12th in London.

The Toys of the Future

With Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure being one of the recent forces to bring the physical and digital worlds together in the realm of toys, MakieLab is attempting to go a few steps further by taking your digital avatar and turning it into a doll. Makie utilizes 3D printing to to carry out the process of manufacturing the dolls which can be customized with the users choice of outfits, shapes and size and features. The company, whose dolls can run upwards of $150, has just received nearly $1.4 million in venture capital funding to allow it to scale in size for the mass market. Based in London, the company is hoping to bring down the cost of its products to better allow it to reach the children’s market while still providing high end dolls for collectors.

Build Big Ben from Bricks

Big Ben, an iconic symbol of the City of London will soon become a part of the LEGO Architecture set lineup. Designed by Slovenian Rok Zgalin Kobe, the model encompasses the Victorian and Gothic Revival feel of the structure, which has made the north-eastern corner of the Palace of Westminster in London its home for more than 150 years. The 14th set in the LEGO Architecture series, Big Ben will be available at  LEGO, LEGOLAND and LEGO Online stores starting June 1st.  Priced at $29.99 , each set will come complete with the elements to build the model and a fact and history booklet about the structure.

Great Britian’s Olympic Team to get Collectible Minifig Series

To celebrate the 2012 London Olympics and Olympic Team GB, LEGO is set to release a Collectible Minifigure Series representing 9 different athletes decked out in Team GB colors. Unfortunately, as the series was developed for the UK market, it will only be made available for sale in the UK.  But if you really want to get your hands on some but don’t live in the UK, don’t fret, a few are bound to show up on eBay or Bricklink.
