To celebrate the 1000th Anniversary of the Bamberg Cathedral in Bamberg,Germany, Playmobil will be producing a figure based upon the Bamberg Horseman. Located inside the Cathedral, the Bamberg Horseman is the life-sized equestrian stone statue, of what is thought to be Saint Stephen of Hungary. 16,000 of the Bamberg Horseman Playmobil figure are being produced exclusively for sale at the Bamberg Diocesan Museum and the Tourism & Congress Service. Priced at €5.99, proceeds from the sale of the figure will benefit the Bamberg dioceses efforts in Senegal.
Pictures of Palpatine’s Arrest, the 645 piece LEGO Star Wars set depicting the chancellors apprehension, have recently surfaced. Six different figures, including; Kit Fisto, Mace Windu, Chancellor Palpatine, Saesee Tiin, Anakin Skywalker and Agen Kolar are included in the set. Presumably set to be priced at $89.99, based on the European price of 89.99 € , the set is slated to be a Toys R Us exclusive.
The LEGO Architecture theme is making its first foray to Asia with the Sungnyemun, the iconic Korean national treasure. Also known as the Gate of Exalted Ceremonies, the Sungnyemun has been located in the heart of Seoul since 1398. The LEGO Architect Sydney Opera House set will be out on March 1st according to a press release put out by LEGO. The Australian landmark, which sits in front of the picturesque Sydney Harbour, opened in 1973 and was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Once released, the set will be available for $39.99 or €39.99 from LEGO’s Online and Retail stores.
A 1:50 scale model of CERN’s Large Hadron Collider’s Atlas Detector has been built by Sasha Mehlhase, a post doc from the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. More than 81 hours were spent to put the more than 9,500 LEGO elements, costing a total of 2,000 Euros, together, to build the model. The model will be utilized to promote alternative ways of learning.
